combat potential
mil., logist. The qualitative and quantitative criteria that define the capability of units ships and formations to carry out specific missions within a given time and in a specific situation. Combat potential depends on: the number of personnel; their levels of training, morale and fitness; the availability and condition of weapons and other equipment; the logistic support situation; the training of commanders and the quality of command and control; the geographical, climatic, meteorological and other conditions; enemy forces and the nature of the opposition they offer. Mathematical computer-based graphics, graphic-analytical and other methods of calculation employing diagrams, tables and the like are used to determine the combat potential of troops. The most complete and objective assessment of combat potential can be obtained by simulation of a battle or operation. (UKR/NATO)
