It does not terminate а state of war but enables, among others, humanitarian actions or negotiations to take place. FRA 2. One of the conditions for cessation of hostilities; sometimes used as a synonym for the latter. A cease-fire may also be used in settling particular issues, for example the triage and exchange of casualties or the dispatch of flags of truce.
