A major operational/strategic formation of the navy entrusted with strategic, operational/strategic or operational missions in maritime theatres of operations, both independently and in cooperation with other fleets as well as with tactical and major formations of different armed services. It consists of flotillas, squadrons and other formations of surface ships, submarines, naval aviation, naval infantry, coastal missile and artillery troops and other components. Fleet operations are supported by a network of major and other naval bases, aerodromes and auxiliary vessel formations, etc.
