mil., logist. Major formations, tactical formations or units from different armed services, arms or branches, specialized support troops and logistic services deployed or disposed along a strategic or operational axis, or in any other area of the theatre of operations in accordance with the concept of the forthcoming operation, to accomplish operations or tactical missions. Force groupings may be strategic, operational or tactical in scale, and may be sub-divided according to their missions into defensive, preemptive strike, counter-offensive or offensive forces. A distinction may also be made based on service or arm between e. g., ground force, air force, navy, missile, artillery and specialized support troop force groupings. (UKR/NATO)
