A person in authority empowered to impose discipline on subordinates and give them orders. A superior to whom other servicemen are subordinate in the course of duty, even if only temporarily, is known as a direct superior. The direct superior closest in rank to a subordinate is known as an immediate superior. A serviceman may also be a superior by virtue of his rank. For instance, generals and colonels are the superiors of all servicemen, including the level of junior officer. 2. The incumbent of an establishment post in charge of a headquarters, specialized support troops, a service, a military education establishment, etc.
