Name given to a fraction of the forces, according to its position 1 st, 2nd echelon or to its function forward, service support, combat support, reserve. It is always related to a given tactical level. FRA 2. An element of a grouping of national armed forces to which strategic missions have been assigned. 3. An element of operational order of battle order of battle of forces. The operational order of battle may include one or several echelons -attack echelon, support echelon etc. 4. On redeployment of an air unit, aircraft or helicopters flying to new airfields form a flight echelon, while its subunits transported by land form a ground echelon. 5. The prescribed altitude at which aircraft must fly on air routes in order to ensure flight safety. (UKR/NATO) |
